As the mornings get chilly, it seems Fall brings about a feeling of community for those around me. At least that’s the excuse I am using for getting “talked into” being secretary of the high school lacrosse boosters! From its inception, Big Grins has strived to be a community partner. In October, look for us at the City of Fort Collins Treatsylvania! For those new to town, this is a great event at Lee Martinez park set up for children to trick or treat I full costume to “doors” sponsored by area businesses. It’s fun and safe, but you have to have advance tickets. Not only will Big Grins be there, but so will Project Smile.
Project Smile is a nonprofit organization that pairs uninsured kids with dental needs or vision needs with dentists and optometrists to get help. It’s completely run by volunteers with no government help and unique to Fort Collins. Recently, my son was asked to join the Young Men’s Service League. His eyes are wide open after volunteering at Respite Care, the Food Bank, and the Learning House. My daughter has also volunteered at Respite Care for years, and this summer she went to Guatemala on a service trip.
I can’t say enough to how that can change a child’s outlook when helping others. Fort Collins is such a great city in that regard. Share your activities with us; what do you do to make our community great? No matter what is it, Thank You!
